Questions families ask
What is kundli matching, or guna milan?
Guna milan, also called Ashtakoota milan, compares the Moon sign and birth star (nakshatra) of two people across eight parts called kootas: Varna, Vashya, Tara, Yoni, Graha Maitri, Gana, Bhakoot and Nadi. Each koota has a maximum, and together they add up to 36 gunas.
How many gunas are needed to match?
Out of a maximum of 36, traditionally 18 or more is treated as the lowest acceptable score, 25 or more as good and 33 or more as very strong. The number is a guide: families also weigh values, the two families and how the two people get on.
Is guna milan enough to decide a marriage?
No. Guna milan is a traditional guide, and families decide. It compares only two Moon signs and birth stars. Values, health, work, the two families and how the two people get on matter as much, and many families also ask an astrologer to read the full charts.
Can I match kundli by name only, or without the birth time?
Guna milan needs a date of birth, because the Moon sign and birth star come from it. Names are optional here. If you do not know the birth time, tick that box: we use 12 noon and show the lowest and highest score the day could give.
Why does the birth place matter?
The place sets the time zone in force on the birth date, including old changes such as India's war time from 1942 to 1945 and summer time abroad. Within one time zone, a nearby large city gives the same result.
What is Nadi dosha?
Nadi is the koota worth 8 of the 36 gunas, read traditionally for health and children. When both birth stars fall in the same Nadi group, Nadi scores 0 and astrologers call it Nadi dosha. Astrologers often look at exceptions in the full charts, and many families treat it as one factor among many. This free check reports the score as it stands and does not apply exceptions.
What is Bhakoot dosha?
Bhakoot is the koota worth 7 of the 36 gunas, read traditionally for family welfare. When the two Moon signs sit in certain pairings, Bhakoot scores 0 and astrologers call it Bhakoot dosha. Astrologers often look at exceptions, for example when the sign lords are friends. This free check reports the score as it stands and does not apply exceptions.
What is Manglik dosha?
Manglik dosha is a traditional chart reading based on where Mars sits in a birth chart. Families usually compare it for both people. If one is Manglik and the other is not, they often talk it through with their astrologer, as one factor among many. This free check does not work it out from the chart: it compares the Manglik status you enter from the family kundli.
Which method do you use?
The Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa and the Moon's sidereal position at birth, computed by Evara's own kundli engine, which is tested against published birth charts and matching reports.
Is my data saved?
Your birth details are not stored. The match is worked out on your device. We keep something only in two cases. If you tap Create a share link, your details are sent once so the result can be built, and only the result is kept for 12 months: the scores and, only if you tick the box, the two names, never the date, time or place. The person who made the link can delete it with the delete token kept on their device, or ask us to delete it. If you ask for a call, we keep the name and number you type, so a matchmaker can ring you back.
